Lucas I was right to ditch Neymar PSG for Tottenham

first_imgFormer PSG winger Lucas Moura says he took the right decision in leaving Neymar behind at Paris Saint-Germain as he hopes to “make history” with Tottenham. The winger saw his game time at PSG reduce after Neymar’s arrival last season, which made him opt for Spurs in a £25 million ($32.8m) in January.Neymar is like my brother,’ he told the Mail on Sunday. “I love him and we have a very good close relationship. It was a little bit sad to leave him and Paris because I like the life there. But I had been there for five years and it was time to have a new challenge.“I wanted to play in another championship and coming here was a big opportunity for me to play in the best league in the world.PSG, Neymar, Ligue 1PSG ultras sent a warning letter to Neymar Manuel R. Spurs can compete with Europes best – Rose

first_imgTottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose believes the team can compete with best teams across Europe after their performance in the group stages of the competition last season.Mauricio Pochettino’s men finished first in a group that had both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, and Spurs recorded comfortable home victories over both clubs to record an easy passage to the second round where they were eliminated by Juventus.“We went to the Bernabeu and were unlucky not to win that game and then when we played them at Wembley we outplayed them, and not just them, Dortmund as well,” Rose said, according to Sky Sports.“We’ve proved that we can do it. At the minute we’re winning ugly and we’re just waiting for the performance to go with the victories.”Victor Wanyama, Tottenham Hotspur, Premier LeaguePochettino admits Wanyama remains in his Spurs plans Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Kenyan international, Victor Wanyama, was the protagonist of a summer transfer saga, but in the end, he is set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur.Rose was instrumental during Spurs’ 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday, winning the penalty that handed the club its second goal of the day after he was fouled by Florent Hardergjonaj in the box. After speculation linking Rose with a move from Spurs in the summer, the England international is grateful he remains central to Pochettino’s plans.“I’m just happy to be playing,” Rose added. “It’s probably something I didn’t expect four or five weeks ago. I’m just happy I’m in a position to be selected and I want it to continue.”last_img read more

Two of three victims of deadly Encinitas cliff collapse identified

first_img August 3, 2019 Posted: August 3, 2019 KUSI Newsroom ENCINITAS (KUSI) – Two of the three victims in Friday’s deadly cliff collapse in the Leucadia neighborhood of Encinitas were identified today as a mother and daughter. The women were identified as Julie Davis, 65, and Anne Clave, 35, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. The identity of the third victim, who died at the scene, has not been released pending notification of relatives.Clave, from Encinitas, died at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla on Friday. Davis died at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, also on Friday. The bluff failure happened shortly before 3 p.m. Friday just north of a lifeguard station, Encinitas fire and lifeguard officials said at a news conference Saturday morning.Officials reopened Grandview Surf Beach before noon Saturday with signs posted to the north and south of the cliff collapse asking the public to keep out of the “active area,” Lifeguard Capt. Larry Giles said.City officials recommended that “given the apparent natural bluff instability, beachgoers should avoid areas near or under the bluffs and keep a recommended safe distance of 25 to 40 feet.”Four search dogs went through the site of the collapse late Friday and officials determined that no more people had been found, Encinitas Fire Deputy Chief Robert Ford said. Two people walked away uninjured after the collapse, Giles said.A lifeguard was in the tower next to the site of the cliff collapse and immediately began to rescue victims. Some good Samaritans helped the lifeguard in the rescue effort, Giles said. The lifeguard tower has since been moved away from the part of the cliff that collapsed.Experts in geology will continue assessing the coastline for any potential collapse threats. Geotech soil engineers said Friday’s failure was an isolated incident, Giles said, and unrelated to the recent earthquakes in Southern California. The failure isn’t affecting structures at the top of the cliffs, he said.“Our coastline is a beautiful area, but the coastline is eroding,” Giles said. More trouble for Johnny Depp as Amber Heard accuses him of perjury

first_imgAmber Heard and Johnny DeppTwitterThings do not seem to cool down for former Pirates of the Caribbean movie star Johnny Depp. In a shocking turn of events, Amber Heard has reportedly accused her former husband, Johnny Depp of perjury — meaning he lied to the court about one major fight. In addition to this, Aquaman movie actress reportedly has proof of Depp’s lying.Amber Heard has accused Johnny Depp of verbal and physical abuse in May 2016 and she filed for divorce on May 23. Ever since their divorce, Depp has denied Heard’s accusations and even stated once that she painted on bruise herself. That being said, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s personal lives are currently gathering a lot of media attention, and all for the wrong reasons. As per a recent report by The Blast, Amber Heard has now accused Johnny Depp of lying to the court. The said accusation has come after the Fantastic Beasts movie star claimed that only one 911 emergency call was made on May 21, 2016.However, Heard has produced records showing that two calls were made to 911 on the said night of May 2016. The first call was made at 8:30 pm and then another one was made at 10:09 pm. But it should be noted that Depp’s legal team has also produced some proofs that show a discrepancy in the stories. As per Depp’s legal team, they have CCTV footage of him leaving the house at about 8:30 pm. This is the same point which Johnny Depp’s attorneys have also made about the alleged abuse case.last_img read more

IBM researchers create worlds smallest magnet

first_img This document is subject to copyright. Apart from any fair dealing for the purpose of private study or research, no part may be reproduced without the written permission. The content is provided for information purposes only. Ever since hard drives were invented, scientists have been hard at work trying to figure out ways to make them smaller while at the same time developing ways to make them more dense so that they can hold more information. As the team at IBM notes, currently, it takes approximately 100,000 atoms to hold a single bit of information. If a technique could be found to commercialize their single-atom approach, they further note, it would allow for holding something as massive as Apple’s iTunes library of songs on something as small as a credit card.To create their tiny magnet, the team used a scanning tunneling microscope to manipulate holmium atoms placed on a magnesium oxide plate (to keep the magnetic poles stable). Applying an electric current to the microscope’s probe allowed for changing the magnetic orientation of the atom between two states, which, the team notes, could be used to represent on/off states for a single bit of data. To read the state, the team measured the magnetic current passing through the atom. The team notes also that the state of several atoms could be read or written when the atoms were as close as a single nanometer apart.IBM has been investing heavily in scanning tunneling microscope research for decades, a technology they have been credited with inventing (Gerd Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer won the Nobel Prize in physics for this accomplishment back in 1986). Recently, they also announced that they had developed a new technique that offered a better way to measure the magnetic field of individual atoms and in a somewhat related development, also announced that they would be offering the world’s first commercial “universal” quantum-computing service. The first witnesses

first_imgFirst witnesses is a phrase that carries a variety of connotations. In the realm of the ancient and the spiritual, it refers to the select few who witnessed the birth of a new faith with its slain founder rising from the dead, filling them with renewed hope. In the realm of the present and the material, it has come to denote those present at the scene of a crime. Their testimony – sometimes the only hope in the subsequent battle for justice. In some ways, the people appearing in this photography exhibition by Vijay S. Jodha at the Kamaldevi Complex of India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi, represent all of the above scenarios. Each woman, a first-hand witness to a personal tragedy involving her own husband or sometimes her father. She is thus a victim as well as the closest observer in a large-scale and ongoing agrarian crisis in India that has claimed over 300,000 lives by way of farmer suicides since 1995. A failure to arrest this trend ensures that the number of such first witnesses grows by the day. Yet few seek them out, much less ensure justice for them. Also Read – Add new books to your shelfThe presence of these women in these photo panels is a small attempt at highlighting such anomalies. A shared desire to have their grievances heard. Maybe in some roundabout way, putting faces to the numbers will eventually help ensure that even the weakest member of India’s farming community is not left without means or dignity. In that sense, their participation here is also an act of renewed hope. Vijay is a writer, photographer and filmmaker based in Gurgaon. He has produced five books and his projects have been showcased in galleries, museums and film festivals worldwide. He studied filmmaking at New York University and has worked with directors Ang Lee and Mira Nair. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsiveVijay’s projects have received over seventy honours in 24 countries including grants from premier cinematic institutions. Two of his books and three of his films have been selected for archiving in the U.S. Library of Congress. Indian Confederation of Non-Government Organisations has honoured Vijay with Media Citizen Award for using media to facilitate social change. This exhibition is sponsored by IIC, in collaboration with UNESCO. Swiss Group Wants to Banish PowerPoint

first_img This hands-on workshop will give you the tools to authentically connect with an increasingly skeptical online audience. Free Workshop | August 28: Get Better Engagement and Build Trust With Customers Now While most people might not love using Microsoft’s PowerPoint to create presentations, at least one person is taking his distaste for the software to a global level.Matthias Poehm, a former software engineer-turned-public speaking trainer has started — yes — the Anti-PowerPoint Party (APPP) earlier this month. Headquartered in Bonstetten, Switzerland, the APPP calls itself an “international movement” that intends to “decrease the number of boring presentations worldwide.” The goal is to make it so that people who don’t want to use PowerPoint “will not have to justify themselves in the future,” it says.Right. Here’s the real kicker: The APPP says people who attend “futile” PowerPoint presentations result in almost $500 billion in hourly wage losses for employers worldwide. Instead, APPP says people should consider using flip charts, which it claims are 95 percent more effective than using presentation software. Here’s a video of Poehm explaining his reasoning: min read While an APPP representative didn’t immediately return an email seeking comment, the statistics above seem to originate from Poehm’s book, “The PowerPoint Fallacy.” Coincidentally, Poehm is offering the book at a 37 percent discount to APPP members. If this doesn’t seem wacky enough, the group says it also wants to participate in the Swiss national elections in October and become the country’s fourth-largest political party. In the meantime, for those of us who either like using presentation software or just don’t want to use a flip chart, business strategist, entrepreneur and venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki — who’s seen his fair share of PowerPoint pitches over the years — suggests abiding by a “10/20/30” rule when putting them together. Here are his tips:Keep it short. It shouldn’t take you more than 10 PowerPoint slides to explain your project or business, Kawasaki says. “A normal human being cannot comprehend more than 10 concepts in a meeting,” he says.Don’t be long-winded. You should be able to present your 10 slides in no more than 20 minutes. “In a perfect business world, you would give your pitch in 20 minutes and then have 40 minutes remaining for discussion,” Kawasaki says.Make it readable. Kawasaki suggests using a font no smaller than 30 points and to use only the content that most convincingly communicates your points. “I guarantee it will make your presentations better because it will require you to find the most salient points and then know how to explain each of them well,” he says. How have you spiced up your presentations? Netflix has said it will pass on the cost of a new

first_imgNetflix has said it will pass on the cost of a new ‘cloud tax’ that will come into force in Chicago later this year to its subscribers. The 9% tax, which will be levied on streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify but not download-to-own services such as iTunes, was approved approved by City authorities last week and comes into force in September.“We will be adding it to the cost we charge subscribers,” a Netflix spokesman told DTVE sister title TBI.“Jurisdictions around the world, including the US, are trying to figure out ways to tax online services. This is one approach.”The new charge is effectively an extension of Chicago’s ‘amusement tax’, which is applied at cinemas and concerts. The new tax, which was enacted last week and comes into force in September, will be levied on ‘electronically delivered amusements’, covering Netflix and its media streaming counterparts. It applies to all Chicago residents. The city already charges an ‘amusement tax’ at cinemas and music concerts and the new tax is an extension of this to account for new technology, City officials said. The new rules only apply to streaming services, dubbed ‘rentals’ in the official documentation, not electronic sales, or permanent downloads. The tax will generate about US$12 million a year, according to estimates.last_img read more

Dear Reader Im on my way home from the justco

first_imgDear Reader, I’m on my way home from the just-concluded, first-ever Sprott Natural Resource Symposium. The show was well attended, which I expected, given the stature of the Sprott organization, but what really struck me was the very upbeat mood of most of the attendees. Given that gold’s two rallies thus far this year have fizzled, and there’s much uncertainty about the next near-term move—and given how bearish so many gold investors have become over the last three years—this was a very pleasant surprise. You can see the same bullishness in our stock prices, many of which are up over 100% from their December 2013 lows, while gold is currently up less than 10% over the same time period. That’s important because, in our sector, the stocks often lead the metals. But for a more fundamental look at what makes our investments tick, Casey Research Analyst Laurynas Vegys has a look at the rallies and corrections thus far in this metals cycle. The “so what?” of it all is quite compelling. Before I turn the show over to Laurynas, however, I want to remind readers that it’s not too late to sign up for our Casey Summit coming up in September, in San Antonio, Texas. These things really are a lot of fun, and the amount of knowledge and insight transmitted is huge. I look forward to seeing many of you there. first_img— Recommended Link Staged RevengeBut let’s turn to our familiar beat—the world of money. Or, more particularly, the world of deceit and delusion known as “economics.” Unromantic. Tawdry. But fascinating.Last week, we were looking at fake wars. As you know, these are wars that no one wants to win, since their real purpose is to shift wealth from the public to the war-fighting industries. Our point was that even fake wars sometimes spin out of control—when people forget what kind of war they’re fighting, for example.Early last week, U.S. President Donald J. Trump was taking the trade war far too seriously. Then, his Deep State handlers must have straightened him out on that; before the week was over, he declared that he wanted to get back into the Trans-Pacific Partnership! Then, he went off message again… this time, on the war on terrorism. A gas attack against civilians in Syria had been alleged; the president wanted to retaliate. As you know, no sparrow can fall anywhere on the planet without inviting a U.S. counterattack against the starlings. Observers wondered why the president didn’t wait to find out who had actually perpetrated the attack… if anyone. But they failed to understand the nature of fake war.It didn’t really matter whether any atrocities had been committed… or who had committed them. As it turned out, the gas attack was most likely fake. Perfect; the U.S. could stage a fake revenge attack, too!Russia was notified in advance of where and when the U.S. would attack, allowing time for the “enemy”—whoever they are—to make themselves scarce. The Donald had an opportunity to show what a tough, decisive leader he is without doing any real harm. It was all for the benefit of the fans… and, of course, the Deep State. So far, so good. Deep State WarThen, no sooner had we all relaxed when, on Sunday, a new war flared up—the war between Donald J. Trump and the Deep State itself. Many people think this war is real. Donald J. Trump, they believe, is fighting for “the people”… and the Deep State is trying to stop him. He really wants to drain the swamp, they say; it’s not his fault the water is getting deeper.Anything is possible.Mr. Trump’s instincts are clearly “populist”—he certainly understands the showbiz side much better than most politicians. But he is no fool.Hardly had the sun set on the polling stations in November 2016 when he invited the Wall Street insiders from Goldman Sachs… and a trio of retired generals… to join him in the White House. But there are many different factions in the Deep State. Like sows at a feeding trough, they bump into each other trying to get at the swill. And the winners are usually those that are most heavily armed.Leaping ahead, we notice that whenever there is a “populist” movement in politics, it almost always leads to the military wing of the Deep State taking control.Caesar, Lenin, Mao, Mussolini, Hitler, Perón, Castro—revolutions begun in the name of the “people” tend to degrade into military dictatorships. Why? Because government is always a way for the few to take advantage of the many… and the fraud is easier to pull off when you can invoke those atavistic “us versus them” emotions. The lumpen naturally rally ‘round the flag and support the military—no matter how absurd the situation. And if they don’t, you shoot them.Regards,Bill BonnerChairman, Bonner & PartnersJustin’s note: For years, Bill has warned about the “Deep State,” America’s unelected shadow government. But who is the Deep State? And how far does their reach extend? In this urgent video briefing, Bill shows you precisely what America’s shadowy insiders have planned… Watch it here.Reader MailbagToday, a reader shares his thoughts on Doug Casey’s interview on the coming comfortable dystopia…This is already being done in Canada. A person who refused to pay moving traffic violations and drove for five years without another one was pulled over for moving cats from his old address to his new address while one cat sat on his lap (he had 4 cats in the car—none of them in cages). Thus, his license to drive has been revoked until he pays the fines. Further, any moving traffic violation automatically increases his car insurance.I find it fiendishly clever for the rich and powerful to enshrine themselves confidentially into our political structure, which is currently destroying our Society. When communication and distance were major impediments to slavery, Society could survive. Such is no longer the case. This is why no matter what the government does, it will fail. Entropy has taken over. Further, China, doing what it is doing, is, in reality, preparing for the inevitable War.—PeterAs always, if you have any questions or suggestions for the Dispatch, send them to us right here.In Case You Missed It…Bill Bonner’s top technology expert, Jeff Brown, just said something shocking…Right now, a technology is being tested that has the potential to permanently cure thousands of diseases. His dirty pants were falling down. He wore a black t-shirt with a skeleton on it. He put his head down on the counter… and said something incomprehensible. He got a cup of coffee… and staggered over to a chair and flopped down, talking to himself. After a few minutes, he got up. He clutched his pants, which were almost around his knees. He wobbled. He lurched. He headed for the door and disappeared out through it.Then, a woman… voluptuous… pretty… dressed in white jeans, with a very low-cut t-shirt came in the same door. She looked in our direction. She said something. We couldn’t make it out… Was she asking the time of day? Directions? We smiled. She came towards us and sat down next to us on the couch. She whispered…“Would you like a massage?”Two young men came in. Shorts. T-shirts. Almost identical outfits. But one wore his baseball cap backwards. They held hands. Smiled at each other. They got cappuccinos. They left.South Beach. Strange new kiosks showing up in 11 states Offic

first_imgStrange new kiosks showing up in 11 states?Officials are expected to deploy strange new kiosks in 11 states… with 21 more states coming onboard. It’s not a new type of ATM, voting machine, or bitcoin exchange station. Instead, it’s part of something we call The Greatest Day in Stock Market History. Click here for the full story By Justin Spittler, editor, Casey Daily Dispatch“How many people have thought about buying Greek stocks?”I heard Peter Boockvar ask this question two weeks ago. He was speaking at the New Orleans Investment Conference.Boockvar is the chief investment officer at Bleakley Advisory Group, a $3.5 billion wealth management firm. He’s also the editor of The Boock Report, a macro investment letter. When he asked the question, maybe one out of a hundred or so people in the ballroom raised a hand. And why would anyone? Greek stocks have been obliterated. The Athens Stock Exchange is down 20% since the start of the year… and down 85% since 2008, when the country was absolutely rocked by the last global financial crisis.Greece’s economy is also a mess. It’s shrunk 26% since 2008. And unemployment is running at 20%. That’s five times the U.S. unemployment rate. This is why most investors want nothing to do with Greek stocks. And that’s exactly why you should give them a look… — Recommended Link Recommended Link • As regular readers know, we’re contrarians at Casey Research… We believe it pays to buy stocks other investors have left for dead. This is how legendary investors like Warren Buffett, Stan Druckenmiller, and Jim Rogers made billions. It’s also how Doug Casey built his fortune.Of course, Doug would be the first to tell you that you shouldn’t buy something just because it’s been beaten down. You should also have a reason why that asset will appreciate in value. And we have that with Greek stocks.I’ll tell you about the safest way to speculate on Greek stocks in a second. But first, let me tell you why Boockvar thinks Greek stocks could soon rip higher. • Kyriakos Mitsotakis could be Greece’s next prime minister… Mitsotakis is a Harvard-educated politician and the leader of the New Democracy party. But unlike most Greek politicians, Mitsotakis has different plans for Greece. He doesn’t want to turn the country into a welfare state. Instead, he wants to spur investment. And he plans to do this in a few ways. Number one, he wants to green light several major projects, including a gold mine in northern Greece and the development of the former international airport at Elliniko. These projects haven’t gotten off the ground because the amount of legal and bureaucratic red tape in Greece is suffocating. That’s something Mitsotakis wants to change.Together, these projects are worth about €11 billion ($12.7 billion). That might not sound like much money. But that kind of investment would have a huge impact on Greece’s $200 billion economy.Mitsotakis also wants to cut corporate taxes from 29% to 20%. And he wants to reduce property taxes by 30% to offset measures imposed by the Greek government during the last financial crisis.Mitsotakis believes these measures will restore confidence in Greece’s economy and attract outside capital:This is our biggest bet – to convince everyone, the markets, the creditors, investors and of course the Greek people; to build confidence in the country and the new government. And that’s exactly the sort of thing Greece needs.Unfortunately, there’s no way to know if Mitsotakis will come out on top when Greece holds elections next October. But his New Democracy party is currently leading in the polls. Do NOT let them place a big ‘Aerial Tower’ outside your bedroom windowMillions of weird-looking cell phone towers are springing up like MUSHROOMS. Estimates range from a few hundred thousand… to a few million nationwide within seven years. Why are so many people concerned? • If this continues, we could soon see investors “price in” a Mitsotakis win in Greek stocks… And that’s something you’d obviously want to get in front of. And sooner rather than later…As I mentioned, the Greek elections are not scheduled until October 2019. But government officials have said they could start as early as May.So consider betting on Greek stocks if you’re looking for an under-the-radar speculation with huge upside potential and little downside. You can easily do this by buying the Global X MSCI Greece ETF (GREK). This fund invests in 15 of the largest and most liquid companies in Greece.Just be sure to treat any investment in Greek stocks as a speculation. As always, don’t bet more money than you can afford to lose.Regards,Justin Spittler New Orleans, LA November 14, 2018Reader MailbagToday, readers respond to yesterday’s Dispatch: “Sessions Is Gone… Outright Marijuana Legalization to Come?”Promotion of legalized marijuana as an investment in the entertainment business is just flat-out wrong. Like anything else that appeals to people’s interests in pleasure, they will reach a point of wanting something a little more powerful, then a little more, then a little more. They will not be satisfied. There will come a day when auto injuries and deaths will skyrocket because of this investment opportunity.
