Leal cops Seven Seas feature cycle 35-lap race

first_imgRAUL Leal returned one hour 17 minutes 56 seconds to win the feature 35-lap event of the Massy Groups of Companies’ sponsored 14th edition of the Seven Seas 11-race cycle programme that was held in the National Park yesterday.Leal was among a group of five cyclists that were among the over 30 starters but after the 25th lap of the 35-lap event, Leal, along with Jamal John, Alonzo Ambrose, Shaquile Agard and Deoraj Garbarran, broke from the pack and were never caught again.As the race progressed, the five leaders extended their lead and lapped the chasing pack of another six cyclists. With two laps remaining in the event, Leal jumped the pack and received the bell signaling the final lap with approximately 20 metres in hand and went on to win comfortably ahead of Jamal John who outsprinted Agard across the line, while Ambrose settled for fourth, Deoraj Garbarran fifth and Paul DeNobrega sixth respectively.Garbarran won four prime prizes while John, Ambrose and DeNobrega won one each.In other results from the programme that was organised by cycling coach and race organizer, Hassan Mohamed, Jonathan Ramsuchit won the three-lap race for BMX boys and Girls 12-14 years of age.The veterans’ under-50 years of age five-lap event was won by Ian Jackson. Second was Keith Fernandes, while Jaikaran Sukhai settled for third.Kennard Lovell won the five-lap race for veterans’ over 50 years of age ahead of Linden Blackman.Nigel Duguid won the 10-lap race for juveniles ahead of Briton John and Marcus Kailer in that order, while in the BMX Boys 6-9 years old two-lap race, Jose Rodrigues won ahead of Jared Barrington.Nigel Duguid was the winner of the five-lap mountain bike race.Prior to presenting the prizes to the respective winners, race coordinator, Mohamed, thanked the participants for making the event the success it was and also thanked the sponsors, Massy Group of Companies for their continued support.Massy Group of Companies’ Products Specialist, Nirvana Thakur, also thanked the participants for being a part of the event and committed her company’s continued support for the activity in the future.last_img
